‘Mahila Yakshagana Saptaha’ from October 4



Courtesy: The Hindu SHIMOGA: “Mahila Yakshagana Saptaha 2009”, a weeklong Yakshagana programme by women artistes, will be held from October 4 at Kuvempu Rangamandir here under the auspices of Abhyudaya Shimoga and the Department of Kannada and Culture. Convener of the programme Lakshmi Nayaran Kashi told presspersons here on Wednesday that seven Yakshagana shows based on mythological episodes such as “Shweta Kumar Charitre”, “Babruvahana Kalaga”, “Sri Krishna Parijata”, “Karna Parva”, “Kamsa Vadhe”, “Kumara Vijaya” and “Saindhava Vadhe” would be staged by all-woman troupes from Shimoga, Sirsi, Udupi, Kundapur, Bangalore and Sullia in Dakshina Kannada. He said the highlight of the festival was that the Yakshagana episodes would be performed in traditional styles such as “Tenku” “Badagu” and “Haaraadi”. Mr. Kashi said that his organisation held 24-hour Yakshagana programmes here in 2003 and 2004. “Shatavadhani” R.
